THE LATEST ADVENTURE: POLAR FLIGHT 2021

Adrian Eichhorn is no stranger to global adventure: In 2016 he flew his Bonanza solo around the world. This time, he’ll go “over the top”, crossing the north pole over the course of a two week mission. Adrian will also have company for the first legs of his trip. Fellow pilot and friend Shinji Maeda will accompany him in his own Bonanza until Iceland, where he’ll break off to the East on his own world-circling bid.

The route starts at Adrian’s home base of Manassas, Virginia, and goes north through Maine, Canada, Newfoundland, Iceland, and Norway. After transiting the North Pole, the pair will head south through Alaska, Canada, ending at Shinji’s base in Portland, Oregon.

ADRIAN EICHHORN

Whether he’s flying airliners for JetBlue, expounding on his love of Bonanzas, or planning his next around the world flight, Adrian brings passion and expertise to everything he touches.

Adrian Eichhorn has done pioneering research that identifies internal engine problems and avoids potentially catastrophic engine failures – and he’s shared this information without charge to pilots, mechanics, and aircraft owners around the world. He’s flown thousands of hours as an instructor, given talks at hundreds of large and small aviation events, and flown his own single-engine aircraft around the world – all to promote better, safer flying. He’s worked as a professional pilot for the Washington Redskins, General Dynamics, and the Federal Aviation Administration, and recently retired as a Captain at JetBlue Airways. Adrian is a second-generation pilot who learned from his dad, a decorated U.S. Army aviator who fought in World War II and the Korean War. Adrian himself retired as a Lieutenant Colonel in the United States Army Corps of Engineers. During that time, he had assignments that included a post as a Strategic Nuclear Operational Plan advisor to President Bill Clinton.

THE PANEL

Adrian’s panel showcases what is possible with a Dynon Certified upgrade in a type-certificated aircraft. His three-screen SkyView HDX system is equipped with the works: Redundant flight instruments, engine monitoring, ADS-B In and Out, Mode S transponder, com radio, worldwide navigation and mapping, and a three-axis autopilot. His was also the first three-screen SkyView HDX system. As a credentialed A&P/IA, he was able to install it himself, a path that Dynon uniquely offers for complete panel upgrades. Equipped with worldwide data and an Avidyne IFR navigator, Adrian has all the tools he needs to fulfill his North Pole mission.

ABOUT N1733G | 1962 Beechcraft P35

A labor of love, Adrian’s P35 V-tail Beechcraft Bonanza was extensively overhauled and modified to tackle the 163-hour around-the-world bucket list trip that Adrian completed in 2016. His overhaul was so impeccable that he was awarded a Silver Lindy at 2018 AirVenture Oshkosh. Now, N1733G’s panel has gone a complete retrofit, featuring a three-screen installation of Dynon’s Certified SkyView HDX system, to support his North Pole flight in 2021. For the Polar Flight, Adrian modifies the aircraft further, transforming most of the usable interior space into storage.
